Lyonel Strong, famed as a warrior but also a man of great natural gifts who had earned six links in his chain at the Citadel, was granted the lordship in the reign of Jaehaerys I. ^ Won the house seat and then died right after - at least he secured a couple generations of power and luxury for his family - there are worse ways to die. His line faltered two generations later when the last Lord Towers died without heirs. Ser Walton Towers was the victor and was granted the seat, though he died soon thereafter of his wounds. Twenty-three knights of his household fought in the blood-soaked streets of Lord Harroway’s Town for the prize. After destroying House Harroway, King Maegor decreed that the strongest of his knights would have the castle, though not all of its lands. The curse of Harrenhal is now starting to rear its ugly head. 
^ Was it worth the gamble? To go from small lords of a lakeside town to ruling Harrenhal, become Hand, and marrying the Targaryen King - should have just stayed nice and cozy at Harrowtown. She became one of Maegor’s queens, and he became Hand, until Maegor the Cruel had them and all their line killed.
Lord Lucas Harroway saw his daughter Alys wed to Maegor. Raised to Harrenhal in the reign of Aenys I, following the death of Gargon Qoherys. Their line ended in only three generations and two lordships with Red Harren gelding the grandson of the original Lord Qoherys, Gargon the Guest, which was covered previously. The first Lord Qoherys, Quenton, was previously Master-At-Arms At Dragonstone, and friendly with Aegon I. The Lords of Harrenhal immediately after House Hoare. The list below shows where the loyalty of each house lies. 
Many of the lesser houses will often have closer ties with another Major House. All the houses of a Kingdom are supposed to follow the Great House of their lands however this isn’t exactly how it works out.
